Another Winter passed, and now it was time to get on with some heavy construction. First up was the big retaining wall to separate the higher part of the garden from the excavated area down the bottom.
This wall was built from hollow concrete blocks, with the re-enforcing bars embedded in the concrete the previous year running up through the hollows. Building with these blocks was very difficult as they are really heavy which makes moving them around, as well as laying them, very draining.
This was a real milestone for us, as the retaining wall was also the first wall of the studio to be built. Champagne was imbibed the day the wall was completed, as is traditional… at least in our house 🙂
